Coverage register

Where we have been quoted, interviewed or written about. The full register runs to more than thirty entries across English, Malay and international media. The five most useful pieces are below.

  1. 7 August 2025 · Vaping Post

“Are Pharma Influence and Policy Confusion Reigning Over the Vape Battle in Malaysia?”

This article is currently the fullest third-party overview of the Malaysian position, citing us alongside MVCC (Malaysian Vape Chamber of Commerce) and MRECA (Malaysia Retail Electronic Cigarette Association), set against bans in Singapore, India and Australia.

  2. 6 August 2025 · Scoop Insight podcast, on PodaBoom

    Interview with our spokesperson

Journalist Sandru Narayanan of The Rakyat Post puts the contradiction directly: products registered, fees charged, duty levied, and a ban discussed in the same period. The written companion piece carries most of our quotations.

  3. 5 June 2025 · The Rakyat Post

“More Effective Regulation, Banning Vape Is Not the Solution”

Our core position carried in the national media the day after The Vibes interview on regulation of manufacturing, sales and usage, and the Public Health England 2015 estimate cited by name.

  4. 4 June 2025 · The Vibes

“Tight regulation, not total ban, key to addressing vape misuse”

Our clearest single public statement: regulate rather than ban, tetrahydrocannabinol mixed into liquids, the black-market warning, and a critique of state-level bans.

  5. 7 November 2015 · The Star

“Vape industry players call for ‘guidance’ from authorities”

An early appearance, published as vape retailers responded to a nationwide raid and asked the authorities for guidance. The original is online but only the opening paragraph is free to read, and that portion does not name MOVE. SEATCA’s profile of MOVE records our founder in this article as having objected to vape being taxed like tobacco, and cites it as Ghazali R., The Star, 7 November 2015. An archived copy preserves the full text, which confirms the quoted remarks.

Broadcast

RTM live television debate

13 November 2015

The earliest broadcast in our record, from MOVE’s first weeks. It was the first time the consumer side of this argument reached a mass audience. In Bahasa Malaysia.

The live television debate happened shortly after the Health Minister said, in late October 2015, that the long-term plan was to ban vaping, and two weeks after the Cabinet decided against a ban.

MOVE’s founder Samsul Kamal Ariffin raised questions about the approach. Throughout 2015, he positioned MOVE as supportive of clear federal regulation, advocating measures such as removing child-friendly packaging, standardising nicotine levels and introducing age restrictions.

He also expressed the view that a regulated framework would help address concerns around enforcement and the sale of vaping products through unregulated channels.

The episode “Generasi Penamat Rokok”, part of Astro AWANI’s recurring panel discussion programme Dialog Tiga Penjuru, went live on channel 501 on Thursday 30 June 2022 at 8.30pm, during the public debate over the generational end game proposal.

MOVE’s founder appeared alongside Dr Wong Chee Kuan, a respiratory physician at Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, and Prof Madya Dr Norashidah Mohamed Nor of Universiti Putra Malaysia. In Bahasa Malaysia.

Astro AWANI programme card for Dialog Tiga Penjuru, episode Generasi Penamat Rokok, showing three panellists and the broadcast date, Khamis 30 Jun 2022, 8.30 malam.

The episode “Cukai Vape: Lampu Hijau Generasi Penamat Rokok?” went live on Friday 10 March 2023. The subject was the excise duty on vape liquid. TV Alhijrah is free to air and is also carried on Astro channel 114. In Bahasa Malaysia.

MOVE’s founder appeared alongside Prof Madya Dr Nur Amani Ahmad Tajuddin, a family medicine specialist at Universiti Malaya, and Dr Wency Bui Kher Thinng, a senior lecturer at Universiti Putra Malaysia.

TV3, Budget 2021 live segment

November 2020

A live news segment in Bahasa during TV3’s coverage of Budget 2021, broadcast around 20 to 21 November 2020. MOVE’s founder put the case for regulating vape rather than banning it.

We hold a phone recording of the broadcast. TV3 owns it, so it is not reproduced here.

We also hold and constantly update our own back catalogue of productions.
All of it is listed here.
